For some categories this probably wouldn't be a big deal (pork and brisket) but for ribs and particularly chicken I can see it being difficult. Also it will call for an odd number of pieces, which may be harder to make pleasing to the eye.
Shoot, one of the reasons I used to like to table captain sometimes was I didn't have to eat everything. Of course, the TC could still pass I am sure.
