Thats why I always use a computer UPS on my FEC's. A UPS (short for Uninterrupted Power Supply) is designed to use with your computer to keep the computer running in case of a power outtage. Furthermore, most of the models also "scrub" the power to provide a very clean electrical source to the computer. I run one one my FEC's at all times for these reasons:

1. Protects the FEC from 'dirty power' and acts as a surge protector in case of a surge.

2. In case of power failure at a contest, the FEC's keep running on backup battery power. Depending on what size UPS you get - it can sustain the cooker anywhere from 10 minutes to 24 hours. The model I have has run my two FEC's for 4 hours with no problems.

3. In case of a power failure at the contest, the UPS beeps, to wake you up - letting you know that the power has failed. This gives you the opportunity to find an alternate power source before the cookers shut off.
