Most trailer fenders are made from thin material. They cannot be used as a step. If you have a blow out, often times, the fender will be torn off and the side of the trailer will be damaged. This is why when I build a somker/trailer, I make my own, using heavy material. Six years ago, when I built the smoker that I still use, I used some 1/4" inch plate for fenders, I used this material because it was not left from another project. Several years ago, I had a car side swipe my smoker on the highway. He had several thousands dollars damage and I only needed one swipe with a paint brush.
