The problem KCBS has in addressing appearance is that to establish what a good appearing box is severly limits to the creativity we are seeing in presentation at this time. I try to teach that garnish should be considered as a "mat" surrounding a great painting. It is not the first thing you notice, but after the initial "appearance" of the meat is evaluated, it is natural to think "what a good (or bad) job of "showcasing" the entry. Even though it is not realistic to expect the garnish to be completely ignored, it must not be the "star", but merely a supporting player. I think many cooks would appreciate what a "convex" box does to the appearance scores.
