For food that cooks in five to fifteen or so minutes, I use a Weber gas grill, i.e. for steaks, chops, hamburgers, fish, vegetables, etc. Use it almost every day and it's fast and easy.
For indirect cooking of things that need to cook for an hour or so, I use a Weber 22 1/2" kettle with charcoal baskets on two sides and a drip pan in the center. I can use wood chips for adding a little flavor when cooking something for an hour. Especially like it for chicken parts or something like a leg of lamb or a whole turkey breast.
I use a WSM for smoking. It's a great backyard smoker that requires little attention after you get it set-up with a stable cooking temperature.
I tried using combination smokers and grills and finally decided to grill on a cooker that is made for grilling, and smoke on a cooker that is made for smoking. Just my two cents.
