Serious Competition Question

Do competition promoters usually compete in their own comps? Is it a conflict or unseemly or okay and business as usual?
I've not seen it before now and at first blush would seem like a conflict or unseemly at the least especially if they win back the prize money they put up.
Then looking at the other side, why not? It's a contest after all right? Why not try and win back the purse you put up?

I'm deferring to the vast wisdom on this board, I know many of y'all have been around a lot longer than I and I seriously want to know what the thoughts are.
