I had some of the same problems with my very old FE-100 (small outlet). Ed Maurin told me to check the voltage on the electrical circuit for low out put. I did that and found that due to a large number of appliances on the same circuit I was indeed getting fluctuation. Now I run the FE of an extension cord plugged into a outlet in a bedroom and out a window. Seems to have solved the problem.
Also, when I upgraded the old controller to a new digital version, the first temp probe they sent me was bad. They replaced the probe and all my problems have gone.
