Tee Wayne Abshire is the 2011 World Jambalaya Champion, which was held last weekend in Gonzales, LA.
Imagine being lucky enough to win Grand Champ in a BBQ contest, well to become a world champion in a jambalaya contest you would have to win three GC's in three days running. Here’s how it works:
Round 1 has 8 heats with a total of 107 cooks; the top 4 from each heat advance to round 2
Round 2 has 32 cooks; the top 12 advance to the finals
Finals has 12 cooks, and Tee Wayne came out 1st which makes him the “2011 World Jambalaya Champion” for the second time.
I forgot to mention that every cooker has the exact same ingredients so this is truly a cooking contest. The judges take your pot and judge it on taste and appearance.
To keep this BBQ related: all cookers are required to cook on a wood burning fire and no propane is allowed.
Congrats Tee Wayne!
