i noticed that he did something that i have never seen done before. when he loaded the ole hickory, he put raw chicken above his butts which were above the brisket. thus, all the renderings from the chicken went on the butts and brisket. all the judges loved the brisket. the guy may be on to something. i cook chicken the same time as other meats at our bbq place but not one on top of the other. they are on different sides of the cooker.
