On my grill (not a char broil) the rotiss infra red is in the rear back, NOT underneath so a pan works great to catch the drippings with no negative impact, only great drippings for a quick pan sauce. Also have a little gas side bar I can toss a foil pack of wood for some good smoke flavor.
