I've waited quite a while to come out a little more public with this issue, but I feel as though I've given the contest organizer a more than reasonable time to make things right.
Earlier in the season, my team participated in a first year contest and were fortunate enough to win $600 in prize money. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until we got home that the checks were made out to the team name, and not me personally. A trip to the bank that Monday morning confirmed that they wouldn't take them. I contacted the contest organizer, who was very easy going, said it would be no problem, simply mail them back with a letter including the correct name, and he would get them right out to me within a couple of days. Well, that was 5 weeks ago.
To make a long story short, I still don't have the replacement checks. Initially there were all sorts of excuses as to why it was delayed, but now he is flat out avoiding and ignoring me. All of our previous communications are documented by email, and I have copies of the original incorrect checks. Can anyone suggest a course of action? Is there someone at the KCBS I can talk to who might be able to get this organizer's attention? The contest was organized by a local chapter of a major national philanthropic organization - should I try to contact the president of that local chapter?
I really didn't want to cause any problems, because I was hoping to come back to that contest next year, but I feel at this point, I'm justified in making the matter a bit more public.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
