Great question Doc. I have had conversations with many people about this. Some contests charge a premium for entry, extra for a bit more space, electricity, water, etc. and pay only top 3 to 5 places in a category and pay Grand and Reserve. One event I did this year cost me a bundle not including what I donated. Out of all that I paid I brought home hardly anything for a second place rib and nothing for 8th overall out of 80 teams and large entry fees. Had to wait a month for the check. I will start going to the smaller cooker friendly ones (when I am able) and a large one if it pays well. I don't care if it is 50 bucks for 6-10 but something to make ya smile. Sorry for rambling. Will see you in Iowa next year!
