6 rpm works, Grainger sells one. An 8' shaft will work. You need around 1 1/2' to hook up the motor and for supports at each end. You can get a much more tender hog by laying it down on a grate and cooking at a lower temp. I did a 140 lb hog that barely fit on a 6' grate.
