Depends on where you are using it. If you mean in the fire box to build your fire on, then yes it will rust and burn out. Might take a year, depending on how often you use it.

Assuming we're talking about a smoker and not a grill, if you mean to use it as a cooking rack/shelf, it will work just fine as long as it is supported properly. Treat it like a cast iron skillet and season it and there will be no rust.
