Since you are a newbe here is how you can use a Polder on your grate. Cut a tater in half, cross wise and stick the probe through it until it comes out the other side by about and inch or two. This gives a sturdy base to set on the grate. Don't let the probe touch the grate or you will not get an accurate reading. Also, do not soak the probe to clean it as they short out, wipe it clean instead.
