The questions are: do you want to grill or smoke, what type of fuel?(Pellets, wood, briquets, lump, or gas)An inexpensive (and very good smoker) is the Weber Smoky Mountain. For about $200.00, it just can't be beat. If you go to a BBQ contest, you will see more than just a few being used. Actually, if I were in your position, a contest would be the first place I would check out, if smoking is what you want to do. See what the competitors are using, and talk to them. Remember, the day of the comp they will be busy preparing their entries. The afternoon before the judging is probably the best time to visit. If all you want to do is grill, I would suggest a gas grill. If you want to do both with one unit, either size of the Green Mountain pellet cooker is, IMHO the way to go. A little spendy, but well worth the money.
