It makes it sound like cooks just want to be scored on their hard work for a weekend of beer drinking with their friends. Cooks should really stop saying that judges need to cook.

Judges cooking wouldnt make the scoring fairer or more even or consistent.

What would make the judging more consistent would be to track judges scoring, review the data and make sure that problem judges are identified and either re-trained or removed from the pool.

Continuous training for judges. Make them renew every 2-years.

Make the judges course pass/fail instead of $75 for lunch.

KCBS should take over the judge selection for contests, or at least part of it. Stop allowing contests you let anyone judge. KCBS is the gold standard, the judges should be the gold standard as well.

I dont think that there is a snowball's chance that any of these changes will be made, including cooks pleading for judges to score them on their hard work instead of their bbq.
