if your house has an attic area, the sun beats on the roof all day, heating the air inside, and through it, the ceiling in your rooms, thus heating the house.

the way to beat this is to install attic fans to blow out the hot air and draw in ambient air, thus keeping the house from being heated.

i live in the San Fernando Valley here in So Cal (like totally) and with one on each end of the house, the only part that gets really warm, is the west end that catches all the afternoon sun.

i paid about $125 for them two or three years ago, and they have been worth every dime. (it cost more to have someone go up their and wire them in with a switch so i can turn them off in winter, than it did to get them)

if you don't have HVAC, they are a life saver.
if you do, they will cut your power bill, since the AC won't have to w*rk as hard...
