As far as I know, this whole thing with the Governor's Proclamations started 20-25 years ago, when there were less than 70 competitions across the country. I might be very wrong on those numbers, but I'm not too far off. The point is that in 2011 we are over 400 KCBS comps an still counting upward. There are over 40 comps in Missouri and over 35 in Kansas. There are 14 in Colorado and 19 Cup Events. Where do you draw the line? A Gov's proclamation means about as much as finishing 11th in chicken. Almost there, not quite. A Blanket Proclamation for a State takes the burden off the State House officials, makes it look better to the Jack and the Royal, and lessens the work on organizers every year. It goes back to the question of how can you have 35 State Championships in Kansas? (or any number in any other state) We have outgrown that stuff. End of story.
