I've generally had the same experience as Erik and Jeff. I cook on 22.5s using BBQ Guru CyberQ II and 10cfm fan choked down about half. Once everything stabilizes I consistently get a grate temp about 25F hotter than the dome reading. I've also checked this with a separate non-Guru thermo and the second probe agrees with the Guru as well. The only time I have seen the dome temp exceed the grate is when I inadvertently placed the lid on the barrel cockeyed or my side door handle broke and couldn't get a good seal. In both instances the dome shot up pretty quickly and exceeded the grate temp. But if everything is sealed and left alone to equalize I find that a 25F differential is about average.
