Because of the proliferation of good BBQ information via schools, books, and the internet the majority of teams now can produce consistantly good BBQ unlike years ago when only a few had it figured out. However many people will produce similar tasting products because they are using same rubs, sauces , injections, and methods. The McDonalds reference is that, they strive for consistancy across the country so all Big Macs should taste the same. Should a cook venture out with some originality, he is either rewarded or punished relative to how successful he was.
