it is entirely up to you I have also judged it both ways ,in fact we had a box yesterday that was naked but looked great and the scores reflected on how it looked ..I also have cooked with a team in virginia and the skin was burnt but we saved our scores by taking the burnt skin off rerubbing the meat and got great scores
