Take those instructions and throw them away, or better yet use them to light your chimney starter.

Fill your charcoal ring with the desired amount of natural lump charcoal leaving an empty void just behind one of the vents. Get a red hot chimney 1/3 full of briquets and dump it into the void. Place your smoke wood about 1 inch beyond the hot coals. Put the cooker together with all vents open 100%. When the cooker is about 15/20 degrees away from your target temp, start tweaking the vents down and dial it in to your target temp. Put the meat on and make sure that you don’t run out of water or fuel, you should get at least 5/6 hours of burn time.
