If you can run your BGE fine without one, great. If you like gadgets or if you get distracted like me, or want piece of mind about overnight cooks, they are great gadgets. I have seen lots of comments that people seem to think that you consume more charcoal with a powered draft unit, but I've never looked into it. I think they can make it easier to get lower temps, and get a cooker stable faster. Good luck!
