Preventing a cook team from competing because the registered Head Cook is not present would be detrimental to more teams than those in competition for TOTY. My team's head cook has been sidelined since September because of health issues. Since then we have cooked several events without Johnny and heard no complaints. Was that because we are known to be a five man team or because we aren't in the running for KCBS TOTY? I can't say, but I'm betting it's about the money.

At the end of the day, the TOTY points mean almost nothing to 99% of the teams who cook KCBS events. It only matters to the "Super Pro" cooks like yourself who can afford the time and cost of entering twenty or thirty contests each season. However, I do believe that to be fair, any game must have clearly stated and equally enforced rules. With no money was involved, KCBS could get away with playing it loosey-goosey with the TOTY, but now that there is substatial cash on the line I think KCBS should put a specific rule set down in writing so everybody knows the parameters of the competition.

Given what little documentation on TOTY exists today, the only limitation on team splitting is that a single ranked team can't be judged at more than one KCBS event per day. Anything other than that is legal, and claiming otherwise has no more validity than saying that cooking with pellets or injecting meat is cheating.

You're in the clear brother. Ignore anonymous haters, it's just wrasslin' with a pig.
