Again, I am disappointed with the Board of Director’s lack of communication and lack of transparency with its membership. The Board announced that it was looking at an International Outreach Program in June. As members of KCBS, we assumed that the Board would reach out to those members who are “international” to maybe pick their brains a bit. You have members who have lived in the UK, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Japan, etc. Maybe find out what a person who has lived for years in a foreign country would see as “issues”. Believe me, visiting a country or area of the world is TOTALLY different from living there. I do not have the faintest idea who this Johnson couple are but if they have not lived a substantial time outside the US then they – in my opinion- are not qualified to teach internationally.
Second there are a number of people that I can think of off the top of my head who have lived abroad who might have been a better choice. I don’t remember an application being available to apply for the International Team. These positions should not be a handout to buddies or friends. All the positions should have been open for any member who wanted to apply. And there should have be specific qualifications and one of them is having lived for at least a specified amount of time abroad. If you have never LIVED abroad - paid rent and utilities and bought groceries and lived with the appliances and space issues and lack of outdoor space issues then you have absolutely no idea how the rest of the world lives – and it is not like here in the USA. If you have not lived in their shoes then you cannot walk the walk or talk the talk.
The issues that were listed – while being legitimate issues – are not the major issues that you are going to run into. Had you gone out to the membership and asked for people who had lived abroad what they think some of the real issues are going to be you might know what I’m talking about. No offense, but I think you’re going to find that there are going to be much larger issues than garnish availability, exchange rates and box size. Those issues are going to be a breeze compared to some of the other issues you’re going to come up against. And you’re going to face some extremely large issues BEFORE you can even get to those breezy ones.
