My husband is from the UK. We promote BBQ every time we can in the UK by cooking for our friends and sending "BBQ care packages" of sauces and rubs. I'm extremely upset that they're going to set this international initiative up and it's going to make KCBS look like idiots because they have no idea what barriers and issues they're going to run into. And then when I found out that these people have only cooked one contest each the last 2 years and only 6 contest ever, I was absolutely shocked. So not only are they sending over people with NO credentials, they're sending them over totally unprepared as to what is "normal" or "average" or even "acceptable" over there. My attitude is that they should send to each country they're going to, someone who has lived there and knows about what you can find in a grocery store, what issues as far as space, cost, target market, transportation, best locations and lord knows what other stuff.
And no, we're not bucking to get to go. We have jobs that won't allow the time off. I am bucking for maybe someone to ask my husband a few questions as they UK is pretty much like the rest of Western Europe - and not like the US. I had severe cultural shock the first few months I lived there because it is so different.
So lay off DDr. BBQ, I'm the one stirring the heck out of this pot. He made a statement and I ran with it.
