I do believe this is part of the problem. It seems the attitude in many places is "as long as it doesn't affect me directly who cares" or people in some places want to compete aka "party" so badly that they will ignore or deny anything that might impact that, they have the attitude "as long as the winners get paid, and we get to have our weekend fun who cares who gets run over.
Then you have who I will call the "takers". Those are the ones who are in it strictly for self serving reasons and will shaft anyone to get that dollar or power.

Now that in and of it self is not always bad as long as everyone knows it up front, organizers/promoters do need to make money to do the events.
Where it gets bad is when one professes to be so concerned with others, charity, honesty etc. or takes an office where taking everyone's best interests into mind, and not self dealing is implied and dare I say required and then only does what's best for them and in secret no less.
Now don't get me wrong, there's definitely some great people out there, both on the board now and looking to be on the board. There's also some very fine organizers and promoters out there as well but after reading hundreds of posts on this forum and others it seems the bad has become endemic at the top and now is trickling down to the local level.
If this is allowed to continue it's my opinion that at some point there'll be nothing left to belong to as it will implode.
I guess where I was trying to go with all of this is the question "was KCBS started years ago with the idea of self enrichment either by money or power or both and at all costs?" Personally I don't think so but that seems to be the way it's going.
It looks now that what once was intended to be a place where people interested in BBQ got together and practiced their sport and had fun/camaraderie is now seen as a cash cow to be milked until dry and he who ends up with the most teats to get milk from wins.

If pointing out that in my humble opinion some things being done stink to high heaven of corruption or saying that some peoples actions appear to be morally or ethically bankrupt is "pot stirring" well I guess that's one opinion. I would hope it's not the majority.

To answer Dean's "leaving well enough alone" I say "well enough for whom?" Everyone as I believe it was intended or just the select self anointed few?
