I agree, there really are three generations of judges out there. I'm from the "start with a 9 and count off" generation. Then there are judges from the "start at 6" generation, then the "start at 5" generation. Now, there's the "give it the score it deserves" generation. I know many, teams in particular, complain about all these differences. But, IMHO, the problem falls directly on the judge's shoulders because the CD that gets played at every KCBS contest CLEARLY tells the judges how to score. The current instruction says essentially "give it the score it deserves." If the judge mentally tunes out the CD, then it's the judge's own fault for not listening to a CD they've probably "slept" through many times before. Ultimately, though, it is the teams that are negatively affected by the judges' inattention.

If someone can tell me how to cut and paste an Adobe .pdf file, I'll gladly post the whole text of the CD.
