cooking, smoking a tri-tip

I recently moved from south Florida to California. I never heard of tri tip, much less cooked one. Out here its the thing though, I am going to cook a couple next weekend for a party. Any suggustions would help. I was thinking of treating them like a brisket, injecting, rubbing, and smoking around 250. I dont know what the internal should be when done, or how long to cook them. Should I trim them? Any kind of sauce on when they are done, and how much of it? Thanks for any help
