I'm kind of in a "no man's land" having been elected but not seated. My opinions below are mine, and mine alone.

I have taken the time to look into the situation but by no means to I feel that I have ALL of the information. Based on what I know at this point there were clearly mistakes made with respect to procedures and likely the architecture. Once I'm seated I expect to have access to various server logs and other data to get a clear and accurate picture of what happened. I'm comfortable that there are reasonable solutions to eliminate the issues and make the registration process much smoother for everyone next year.

I wasn't a member of the board when this occurred, but I'm willing to own it as much as I can at this point. I've taken the time to call friends that did not make it in to their contest of choice. Every single one of them handled the issue well, but were clearly disappointed. Almost all of them agreed that they didn't really know what would be fair in terms of trying to make things right for them. I'm not sure what, if anything, beyond what's been done so far can accomplish that and make everyone happy. If anyone has reasonable suggestions I'd be happy to listen in the event that the board considers the issue at the Feb. meeting.
