Growing up in NY I was fortunate to have a lot of small Italian import stores all around me. There are a lot of great brands of pasta there. Tomasello, Marini etc are great brands as well. If you get some small rings (Anellini), It makes the best mac salad.
Another interesting factoid about the wheat that makes good pasta. It used to be that good Durum flour (semolina) was only from central Europe. Come to find out, the same type soil, weather conditions etc are found in North Dakota.
With the help of some good scientists and farmers North Dakota now produced virtually the same semolina quality as imported semolina. So they say.
