Bill in Denver offers some good advice. If there are contests near you, consider just showing up at the judges tent. It's common for there to be "no-show" judges. So, if you're there, you might be able to fill a sudden vacancy. On the other hand, if all the judges do show up as well as the backup judges (organizers often overbook judges as a hedge against no-show judges), the organizer and reps don't want to send the overage judges home, so usually the reps will add a judging table so everyone, or as many as possible, can judge. This is what we do where I rep. This is no guarantee, because sometimes the numbers just won't work, so you still might not get to judge. But, it's "worth a shot," besides, there's always an additional hand needed in the judging tent for something...think turn-in table, grazing table, runner, etc. You'll get to eat. Good Q'en On Ya'.
