They keep talking about gas going up to record levels this summer. The thing is, I'll be signed up for comps long before I know what the gas will cost me to get there and back. One thing we are doing this year is looking for comps that are closer. So, gas prices may influence the comps I pick, but, not actually doing BBQ competitions.
I see where almost half the folks are saying $4 a gallon will SERIOUSLY limit their competing. That's unfortunate and some may end up rethinking that. They're saying gas will be well over $4 a gallon by Memorial day. The cost of competing is going up - meat, supplies are all higher. In the overall picture, is a little more for gas that big of a deal breaker? People are spending $130 for 1 waygu brisket, but, don't want to spend an additional $20 or $40 in gas?
