I haven't dug into the bottom of an FE 500. Call Eddy and get the straight scoop on your problem. Sounds totally like an air flow problem.
If the pellets were dry when you took them out...not the problem.
Only other thing, because of the rain, would have been moisture in the control boards. There was a problem with an FE 500 that showed up in Osage City a few years back, drove through a snow storm getting there. All the boards were wet. 6 hours with 4 hair dryers from RV,s fixed it.
