a good start by might be by buying "Real Barbecue" by Greg Johnson and my high school classmate Vince Staten published by Harper and Row publishers. Originally written in 1988, they came out with a pocket version in 2005. Vince also wrote "Jack Daniels Old Time Barbecue Cookbook" by The Sulgrave Press out of Louisville, Ky.

Otherwise, might suggest Yelp, Trip Advisor and Urbanspoon. Two clicks is all you need for any city in America.

Owning a small bbq place where we live, we get to meet a lot of interesting bbq folks. a couple came in the otherday that have visited over 150 bbq places. they recorded the results of their visits in a book. we were happy to take our place on the list.

i am sure you have plenty of work ahead. good luck and enjoy the mission.
