The MAK and Yoder are both great cookers. The MAK pellet boss controller allows for user programmed temp control profiles. The Yoder is a smart controller, and has multiple heat up modes to get pit rolling in all temps. I have cooked comps on both, and they are both good pits. The MAK is gauge weight metal (stainless in the 2Star) and is double walled, the Yoders are 10 Gauge solid wall units. Pricewise, you can't beat the yoders, For the space and flexibility, there isnt anything close, which is why I started looking at them. I replaced my Country Smokers with Yoders this year, and Yoder has been gracious enough to sponsor me. IF you look through my photos from last year on FB or Website, you'll see we use an FEC and Yoder for the last of the season last year, and will likely do the same this year. Last weekend, we won the Chest to Chest and got a 180 rib score on the Yoder. Last Fall we nailed a GC in Mesquite on the MAKs. Both are quality pits. Yoder was the pit of choice for the Chef's Choice win at the JAck last fall also... so flexiblity, quality, and value. Yoder nails it in all 3. It has amazing amount of space, has flexible heat zones, and is very well built, so Yoder would be my choice between those two pits.
