My experience has been to read the ingredients label and then taste the product. Unless you are eating sauce with a spoon you can cut back and not have a problem. I'm more concerned with the salt in rub than sugar considering most of the rub renders out with the fat.
I believe you can still eat about anything but in moderation.
6 years of dealing with the problem and having it under control!
