It may see like a vague answer, but yes, different sources will give you different levels of heat. Given that all other variables were the same (air intake, distance from heat source, etc) for lump, briquettes, cherry and oak; each of these sources would be at a different temperature when at their optimal efficiency. Gas would be a completely different issue (besides the outright heresy of actually using it) because that is determined by the type of burner in the grill more than just the gas.
