I don't think it has anything to do with vegetarians. I eat meat every day and want to feel confident in the people making it. I have nothing against pink slime, but I would prefer it was labeled.
I think companies can no longer expect people to look the other way when stuff like this comes out. I think it comes down to a matter of having trust in the people making your food. If you don't have trust, then don't buy it. That's why I've made a concerted effort to grow more of my own food and buy from people I know personally.
Whether companies like it or not, there is a movement in this country toward disclosure and integrity in food production. The companies that embrace it will prosper and ones who don't will likely be in for a roller coaster ride.
