I pay close attention to new judges' scores. In only one case have I had to get with the Rep and have a little counseling session (new judge was giving mostly sixes and the table norms were running eights and nines).
Honestly, I have more problems with experienced judges who "turn off their brains" every now and then. Last year I had an MJ at my table who marked a rib entry down to a five because it was cold (he even wrote a comment card about it). The Rep and I gave him a little "nudge" and he got over it.
The TC's job is order and flow, not "police" but there is a subtle area where a good TC can help a judge without making a big deal of it. Last week we had a box of ribs with sauce on the lid. A new judge at the table pointed it out to me like it was some kind of heinous error. I told him "nobody eats the box -- judge the meat". He got my point.
