Sorry, but I don't believe a judge of any experience will give a higher score to a piece of meat prepared in a style he/she doesn't care for. If the judge likes ribs that are sauceless and spicy, a wet, sweet rib usually isn't going to get a perfect score from that judge no matter how perfectly prepared it is. And I'm fine with that. Judging barbecue isn't a science, and competing is a c r a p shoot. Cook your best and have fun.
