I think that's the heart of the matter. It should more properly be called American Kobe, or Kobe-Style Beef or something along those lines. Some suppliers may call it Kobe to try and charge more, but most probably do it for simplicity or to save an argument. Like calling any sparkling wine a champagne even though it isn't from that region in France. Or arguing with your neighbor who tells you he 'barbecued' some hamburgers on his grill last night.
We sell an American-Style Kobe/Wagyu Beef just north of KC, MO to restaurants, wholesalers, grocery chains, and even cases at a time to BBQ cooks all over the country.
