No the sear station is just another SS tube burner @10 000 BTU between the first and second burner. Besides being off, it can be either high or low with nothing inbetween.

I am sure it helps with searing, but for the most part I see myself using it to warm up the BBQ in winter faster and keeping it hot when lid is open.

I ended up switching to the CEP 330 model, for an extra $150 i get a side burner and an extra burner. As it is supposed to be a good long lasting BBQ I might as well get all the fatures I can get on it.
