Expo snags 'world’s largest pork burger' title
Cooks grilled up the “world’s largest pork burger” at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this month. It boasted 260 pounds of pork and a 40-pound bun, according to a news release by the National Pork Producers Council, the expo’s organizing body.
Sponsors Hog Slat, of Newton Grove, N.C., and the NPPC donated half of the pork burger to be served as pork sandwiches in Des Moines-area homeless shelters. Expo attendees ate the rest.
The Guinness Book of World Records reportedly doesn’t recognize “pork burgers” as a separate category from the beef variety, so the “world’s largest” claim isn’t certified. A 260-pound slab would eclipse the pork burger reportedly grilled up in Humboldt, Iowa two years ago: That sandwich was only 240 pounds, according to media reports at the time.
