I can't think of anyone that I know that cooks "Q" that did not start out on the low end of the cost spectrum. With a little experience you start to see where the problems are and usually try to fix them. Then you move up to a better unit and things get better. I am currently a "pellet head" after starting years ago with a charbroil water smoker, then a Brinkman Texas style smoker (New Braunfield), then a Klose backyard, then a Kerce water smoker and then on to a "FE".
Each unit you buy will teach you something about the art and you will move on due to limitations you have discovered, or you will reach a level that you are happy with.
