A note on presentation: I agree that chicken disguised as perfectly round, glowing red muffins isn't what chicken oughta look like. It's weird. So if I was a judge and the captain opened a box that had identical neon sextuplets that look more processed than a McRib®, I'm probably not going to think, "Oooooh! I gotta have a bite of that!" It might cost the entry appearance points...and there's your scoring swing. And none of the judges would be "wrong." As much as some people want to turn judging into a science, it all comes down to personal taste. Cook your best, roll the dice, have a good time.

BTW, while our chicken isn't as muffin-looking as some, it's trimmed so they're pretty symmetrical.
