Use a BGE seal on the door, it does help. It will assist in keeping the smoke in and not waste fuel with big leaks. The bigger issue is the thin metal that the Chinese use and the heat from the fire pot. Use a cast iron type griddle between the fire pot and the deflector to help control and hold the heat and prevent hot spots while cooking. Google for some of the mods that are needed to make this pit work properly. One search might be for pellets heads.
