I'm trying to see where I wrote that the Royal was owned and operated by the KCBS. Nope - not seeing it. The American Royal is a livestock show. Did you know that, or did you think it was just a bbq contest? Anyway, I wrote that the Royal and the KCBS are partners. And if you ask me, the KCBS and Royal have been pretty cool by giving any other sanctioning bodies invitations, given that the KCBS IS the sanctioning body of the contest.
And I'm sorry, but this year IS different from last year. And last year was different from the year before. Every year has been different. We've covered this but you seem to think we're lying, so one more time: they are out of room. Have you been to the American Royal? It's packed. That's what has changed. Every year they've added more teams. They are out of room. I'll bet it was a pretty rough meeting when the folks at the Royal had to sit down and decide who would get bumped. But someone had to get bumped because there simply isn't room for more teams. In my opinion (and in the opinion of quite a few others who proved they're smarter than I am by not getting involved in this debate), the team that wins GC in a 50- or 100-team contest is more deserving of an invite to a contest where the number of invitations is limited than the winner of a contest with just 20 teams.
And contests need competitors more than they need judges. If you're truly worried about the events being "killed off" in your area, maybe you should take up cooking instead of eating.
