In golf when there is a tie, they add up the prize money for each tied placing then divide it evenly. So in your Tryon example the 5 places in brisket pay $1000, $600, $500, 250 and $200. Each person would have received $510 in prize money. Of course then there is the issue of trophies. Also in golf if there is a tie for 1st then they have a playoff. That's not possible in a barbecue competition. Would you like to see the prize payout work like a golf tournament ? I kind of like the idea.
